This study originates in the observation that improv comedy or improvised theater has such a vast majority of white people practicing it, while other improvisational or comedic art forms (jazz, freestyle rap, stand up) are historically grounded in and marked as Black cultural production. What it is about improv that makes it such a white space? Can an absence be an object of study? If so, what is there to study? Where should one look?.

Mouth actions in sign languages have been controversially discussed but the sociolinguistic factors determining their form and functions remain uncertain. This first empirical analysis of mouth actions in Irish Sign Language focuses on correlations with gender, age, and word class. It contributes to the linguistic description of ISL, research into non-manuals in sign languages, and is relevant for the cross-modal study of word classes.

The Semiotics of French Gestures is an important contribution in the field of semiotics, described on the original 1990 front cover flap text as follows: "Everyone gestures while speaking, in a specific and generally unconscious manner. A partir de uma metodologia experimental, construída junto ao grupo Espaço Livre de Pesquisa-Ação do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia da Universidade Federal da Bahia (POSGEO/UFBA), e suas experiências como ator e diretor de teatro, o autor faz misturar temáticas ligadas à geografia humana e cultural, à arquitetura e ao urbanismo e à fenomenologia. Seu foco é pensar como o teatro poderia fazer os artistas se relacionarem com o lugar, sendo este um espaço de negociação, de pertencimento, de troca, de afeição e mediação, sobretudo com quem vive o lugar. A intervenção viária como essência do corpo-lugar e do lugar-cênico traz aos estudiosos da arte urbana uma alternativa à categoria “teatralidade”, pois a noção de que o artista, ao deslocar seu corpo-lugar, apropriando-se do espaço urbano através de intervenções viárias, pode produzir lugares-cênicos na cidade.
